POINT B HOSTEL
PROJECT BY MIKAELA UGGELDAHL
When travelling from Point A to Point B and losing oneself exploring a new city, it is important for travellers to feel secure knowing their destination provides adequate lodgings. The Point B hostel in downtown Ottawa ensures a safe, affordable, and flexible place where travellers can rejuvenate and relax to prepare for the rest of their travel days. The design of Point B overcomes the negative connotations toward hostels by offering a variety of ways guests can choose to experience their vacation. Dormitory spaces can be booked for those seeking an affordable and social experience, while individual/group sleeping pods provide guests with a more private option. Additionally, accessibility is addressed in every space, including barrier-free sleeping pods, to ensure all guests are welcome to visit the Point B hostel.
Located on Rideau Street, the Point B hostel is walking distance from famous monuments, public transportation, the ByWard Market, and the Rideau Centre mall. The design of the hostel embodies Ottawa’s identity and culture to help travellers better immerse themselves in the city. For instance, the exterior architecture is reflected in the interior design through various arches and curves, the interior features many local artists’ pieces, and the library promotes a ‘take a book, leave a book’ system to encourage others to share local literature. The Point B hostel is a fun, comfortable, and safe destination for any traveller to enjoy.
